Trainer Mark Kavanagh said he would decide on Thursday night whether Makybe Diva’s second foal La Dolce Diva would make her racing debut at Sandown on Saturday.

The two-year-old daughter of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus and triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, twice voted Australia’s Horse of the Year, is an acceptor in Saturday’s Jim Conway Hcp (1200m).

Kavanagh said he was waiting to see whether there was much improvement in the condition of the track, rated a slow (7) on Wednesday.

“I’d like it to go to dead otherwise she may go to a race on the Geelong synthetic (track) next Thursday,” he said.

That race is a two-year-old fillies maiden over 1200m.

“That track is racing terrific and I’m pretty happy to start any of my horses there,”Kavanagh, who pointed out that his dual Group One winner Whobegotyou won at his debut on the synthetic surface at Geelong, said.

“I won’t be running her on a track that is not suitable.

“She’ll have one run, maybe two, but probably just the one. I think she’s got plenty in front of her and I don’t want to leave it too late to get her back for the spring and the (Victoria) Oaks.”

La Dolce Diva, who was knocked down for $1.2 million at the 2010 Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, has had three jumpouts including a third in one at Werribee last Friday.

“She got home pretty strongly down there. She’s only learning but she’s getting better all the time,” Kavanagh said.

Makybe Diva’s first foal, three-year-old Galileo colt Rockstardom, is yet to win a race with two third placings from seven starts for the Danny O’Brien stable.

Rockstardom was purchased for $1.5 million as a yearling in 2009.
